Academy of Government and Military Coaching (AcademyGMC) 40-Hour ICF-Accredited Certificate

What happens when the uniform comes off, but the questions about identity, purpose, and belonging remain?

This is the reality countless service members face as they leave a world defined by mission, camaraderie, and clarity. More than a career change, transition is an inner journey filled with endings, uncertainty, and the hope for a new beginning.

At the Academy of Government and Military Coaching (AcademyGMC), we honor that journey. That is why we created the Certificate in Transition Coaching for the Military (CTCM) that is an ICF-accredited 40-hour certificate designed to support service members with coaching competencies, understanding, and tools.

After years of service, stepping into civilian life can feel like stepping into the unknown. Military service ties to identity, community, rhythm, language, purpose. When that structure shifts, service members often wrestle with questions that shape who they are becoming. Questions may show up like:

·       Who am I outside the uniform?

·       Where do I belong?

·       How do I rebuild?

·       What’s next for my career and my life?

The CTCM training ensures these personalized questions receive compassionate, structured, and professional support.

Why This Program Matters

Military personnel carry remarkable strength, discipline, and resilience. The transition out of service often introduces shifts that go beyond finding a new role.

Drawing on William Bridges’ Managing Transitions: Making the Most of Change, the CTCM helps coaches recognize the three core phases of transition:

  • Endings – letting go of roles, identity, and community

  • The Neutral Zone – navigating uncertainty and restructuring

  • New Beginnings – redefining purpose and integrating what’s next

This framework creates space for coaches to meet clients where they are with understanding of the “in-between” space, empathy, and deep listening.
